Project Overview:
The Atlas Gas Compressor Station was constructed to deliver 32 TJ/day of export-quality gas. The facility processes wet, low-pressure coal seam methane gas from Senex’s gathering system, compressing and dehydrating it before delivering it to market. Designed as an unmanned facility, it is operated remotely from a central control room in Melbourne. Altrad (formerly Valmec) executed the turnkey construction, leveraging modular pre-assembled pipe rack skids to minimise installation time on-site.
Scope:
Altrad’s scope of work included:
- Bulk earthworks, concrete works, and piling.
- Road construction and structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) installations.
- Electrical and instrumentation (E&I) works.
- Construction of permanent buildings and associated infrastructure.
- Commissioning support for the facility.
Key Features of the Facility:
- Two inlet slug catchers with automatic level control and dumping.
- Enclosed ground flare system.
- Five screw compressor packages and five reciprocating compressor packages.
- Tri-ethylene Glycol (TEG) gas dehydration unit.
- Switchroom, gas, and diesel power generation units.
- Instrument air package and gas metering systems.
- Chromatograph and moisture analyzer, along with an oily water treatment unit.
Outcomes:
- Delivered the facility on schedule and to Jemena’s specifications.
- Accelerated Installation: Utilised driven steel pile foundations and modular pre-assembled pipe rack skids to reduce installation time.
- Regional Workforce: Mobilised a workforce of over 100 personnel, predominantly from the region, to ensure timely project delivery.
- Supported Jemena’s operations with a state-of-the-art, remotely operated compressor station capable of handling complex processing requirements.
- Reinforced Altrad’s reputation for executing large-scale, technologically advanced gas infrastructure projects, following the successful delivery of the NGP Mt Isa Compression Facility project in 2018.
