Project Overview:
The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project, located on Barrow Island, involved constructing a 2.1 km LNG jetty and marine structures to support LNG operations. The jetty, composed of 70-meter-long steel trusses and supported by 56 massive concrete caissons, is critical to transporting LNG from shore to offshore loading platforms. Altrad (formerly AGC) contributed to this ambitious project by delivering specialised cryogenic insulation for the jetty’s pre-assembled racks, ensuring the safe and efficient transport of LNG under extreme conditions.
Scope:
Altrad’s scope of work included:
- Supply and installation of cryogenic insulation for the infill sections between the jetty’s pre-assembled racks.
- Integration of insulation systems into the 2.1 km LNG jetty and marine structures.
- Coordination with other contractors to ensure smooth delivery and installation of key components.
- Support for transportation and assembly of the massive concrete caissons, each weighing approximately 2,500 tonnes.
Manning:
- Workforce specialising in cryogenic insulation, marine construction, and heavy infrastructure assembly
Outcomes:
- Successfully delivered cryogenic insulation for the jetty’s pre-assembled racks, ensuring operational readiness.
- Contributed to the timely and safe assembly of the 2.1 km jetty and marine structures, a cornerstone of the Gorgon LNG Project.
- Enhanced Altrad’s reputation for delivering specialist solutions in challenging environments, such as Barrow Island’s unique ecosystem.
- Maintained exceptional safety and environmental compliance throughout the project duration.
- Reinforced partnerships with ENI Saipem and Chevron Australia, showcasing Altrad’s ability to handle complex, high-stakes infrastructure projects.
