HyP Gladstone – SMPEI Works

Project Overview:

HyP Gladstone represents Australia’s first whole-of-network decarbonisation initiative, supplying up to a 10% renewable hydrogen blend to approximately 770 homes and businesses in Gladstone through the existing gas network. The project is a significant milestone in reducing carbon emissions and advancing Australia’s hydrogen economy. Altrad (formerly Valmec) executed SMPEI fabrication and assembly of critical components, contributing to the facility’s successful delivery and operation.

Scope:

  • Fabrication and assembly of key components for the hydrogen production facility.
  • Collaboration with AGIG to ensure alignment with the project’s technical, financial and environmental goals.

Outcomes:

  • Delivered SMPEI packages to support the production of up to 2.75 kg of hydrogen per hour using a 175kW PEM electrolyser.
  • Contributed to an annual reduction of approximately 57 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to removing 19 petrol passenger vehicles from the road.
  • Supported the successful operation of Australia’s first city-wide renewable gas network, reinforcing Altrad’s role in innovative and sustainable energy projects.
